Office Furniture: Purchasing Tips
You are a serious business person. You have responsibilities that other people just don’t understand. And you take your office chairs seriously. They are no laughing matter to you. After all, they are ergonomic; they are functional, muti-adjustable and solid. You are proud of the fact that when the office manager recently decided it was time for more office chairs, it was you who was chosen for the meaningful and important task of choosing which ones to get. But did you know that not everyone sees their chair quite the same way that you do? Did you know, in fact, that some people refuse to take the subject seriously at all? Oh, I know it can drive you insane. If only other people would just grow up and start to see things the way you do. Then the world would be a better place.
Many physical problems can be attributed to a bad chair. If your office chairs are lame, then your people are going to be unhappy and agitated. They may not even realize why, but they will be uncomfortable and probably irritated. I discovered that once I put out for a decent chair, my day went a lot smoother. I wasn’t as fidgety and annoyed, and my back and neck could not thank me enough.
Task chairs – these are the normal everyday office furniture chairs that most people use at home. These can be very cheap, acquired at your local discount store for under $30, or can be ten times this amount for a good one that will last awhile. These can be cloth, leather (real or fake) or made of other man made materials. Many will have ergonomic features such as lumbar support, and are also adjustable in multiple ways. Most of us can find a task chair that will suit our daily use, you just have to take the time to try out a fair number of them to discover what will work best for you.
Something you may not have considered beyond the basic functionality of up and down and forward and back, is the angle of the seat itself. Good office chairs will give you additional options for setting the seat how you want it. Tip it forward if you desire a greater tilt to the front, and back a bit if you would rather feel more “in” your chair. That’s the setting I prefer because I don’t like feeling as if my chair is going to tip me out on my nose. Paying attention to preferences like these can only be done if you have the options. Once you are able to try different settings, you will soon discover what a wonderful difference the right chair can make in your day.
Wood chairs were found a lot before modern office furniture chairs became an ergonomic science, but the can still be found today. However, they usually only swivel and rise up and down and are not ergonomic in other ways.
When choosing your office furniture, first select your desk and chair. Without these two items, it will be impossible to create a theme for your office (or do any work). From there, explore the possibilities! Bookshelves, filing cabinets, and things we didn’t get to today like tables, stands and stools are all available in exciting new styles. There’s no reason to be stuck in an office from the past.
